If you’re wondering what you can do to make sure your wedding photos turn out well, you’re not alone. You’ve invested in photography and you want to know what’s in your control.
Here are a few practical wedding photography tips to help.
You don’t need to know how to pose
Feeling a little unsure in front of the camera is completely normal, and you don’t need any experience or a list of poses ready to go. During portrait time, I’ll guide you with simple prompts and direction, so you can focus on each other. Throughout the rest of the day, I capture candid moments as they happen and give direction when it’s helpful.
Light makes a difference, but I’ll work with whatever we’ve got
Soft afternoon light is beautiful for photos, so if we can get you outside for even a short time before sunset, the results are lovely. But whether it’s full midday sun or a dim reception room, knowing how to work with different light is part of the job.
A relaxed timeline helps a lot
Allowing a little breathing room in your timeline helps portraits feel less rushed. A few small buffers built into the schedule can make a surprising difference.
If you’re moving between locations, such as from your ceremony to a portrait spot and then on to your reception, allow enough time for travel and getting everyone where they need to be. It also helps to prepare a list of the family photo combinations you’d like beforehand and share it with me, so family photos run smoothly and nobody is left searching for missing relatives.
The details you’ve put love into
Your stationery, your florals, the little personal touches that say something about you as a couple. They’re part of the story of the day, so make sure someone knows to keep them together and accessible when we need them!
Tell me about the moments that matter to you
The speeches, first looks and little private moments are often the most emotionally charged parts of the day. A note written to each other the morning of the wedding. A private moment after the ceremony. A surprise from one partner to the other. If there are particular people or moments that are important to you, let me know before the day so I can make sure I’m in the right place at the right time.
Relax and enjoy your day
That’s easier said than done on your wedding day! But once the planning is done, the best thing you can do is be present and let the day be what it is. When you’re laughing, having a good time, and being yourselves, that comes through in your photos.
