About Sandie

Hi there! I’m Sandie!

Born in Paris, France, I moved to Australia as a young child with my family. There wasn’t any particular moment when I suddenly found my passion for photography – it was simply always there!

It all started when I was a mere glint in my father’s eye. My Mum was a dancer at the Moulin Rouge, my Dad the sound guy.

Obviously, the only possible next step was for the two of them to get married! Even though I was a Moulin Rouge baby through and through, we moved from Paris to Perth when I was just 4.5 years old.

Perhaps it was the travel back and forth between these two cities, or perhaps it was growing up surrounded by creativity, but I’ve known forever that photography was what I wanted to do.

I loved the idea that every day would be different, I loved that I wouldn’t be stuck at a desk, I loved that I’d have a chance to be creative day in and day out. Thankfully, I love the reality too!

I started taking photos in high school and didn’t stop until I found myself working as a photojournalist for the West Australian. Here I won the Young Australian Photographic Journalist of the Year by the Walkley Foundation, which only pushed me to keep working and keep learning! I truly believe a picture is worth a thousand words, and I love telling stories through photography.

For me, wedding photography wasn’t exactly love at first sight, it was more of a slow burn. I began photographing weddings back in 2006, simply because the opportunity was there. With time though, it grew to be one of my favourite things. Photographing weddings is a unique chance to spend my most important days at work surrounded by joy and love and beautiful couples who’ve entrusted me with their most important memories. Not only that, photographing a wedding is a chance to document a real and important story.
