Advice From Couples

Real Wedding Advice from some of my amazing Couples!

Planning your wedding can be both exciting and overwhelming, so I reached out to some of my amazing couples to ask what advice they’d like to pass on or wish they had known before the big day. Here are their top tips to help make your special day smooth and memorable!

Getting Ready

Let’s kick off the day on the right foot! Here are some tips to help you start your wedding day calm and collected.

  • Be Prepared and Stay Calm: Always aim to be ready at least an hour before you need to leave and have all your bags packed and by the door to avoid last-minute rushing.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, but stop two hours before heading out.
  • Break in Your Shoes: Make sure to break in your shoes before the big day to avoid discomfort.
  • Read Through Your Vows: Practice reading your vows to let out the raw emotions, helping you stay composed when you read them for real.

Ceremony

The ceremony is the heart of your wedding day. Here are some tips to make it even more special and stress-free.

  • Wishing Well Placement: Position your wishing well at the ceremony location rather than at the reception. This helps guests avoid the awkwardness of holding onto their cards or struggling to fit them into tiny clutch bags.
  • First Look: Consider having a ‘first look’ before the ceremony. It’s a private moment to see each other and calm any nerves, making the walk down the aisle even more special.
  • First Touch: Having a ‘first touch’ before the ceremony, where you hold hands around a corner without seeing each other, can be a comforting and emotional moment.

Photo Time

Capture those beautiful memories! Here’s how to make the most of your photo time with some heartfelt moments and meaningful details.

  • Personal Moments: We made sure to take a moment for ourselves right after the ceremony. Just a few minutes alone to soak in the fact that we were finally married made all the difference in the world.
  • Meaningful Details: Include little details that are significant to your relationship, like using my grandmother’s vintage lace in my bouquet. It made the day feel even more personal and connected to our history.
  • Stay Together: Try to stay together during the reception. We went to the bathroom together, had conversations with guests, and didn’t leave each other’s side, so we weren’t torn apart. We had a great time and know that most pics taken of the night will have us close.

Reception

Time to party! Make the most of your reception with these handy tips to keep the celebration fun and stress-free.

  • Private Moments: Make sure to have some time alone during the reception, just the two of you, to take it all in.
  • End the Night with a Private Last Dance: It’s a sweet way to wrap up the celebrations and savour the final moments of your wedding day.
  • Plan a Surprise: Whether it’s a flash mob dance or a surprise guest, a little unexpected fun keeps the energy high.
  • Enjoy the Moment: Don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day, it’s about the love you share, not the colour of the napkins.

Before the Wedding / Planning

Planning your big day can be a rollercoaster, but here are some tips to keep it personal and stress-free.

  • Stay True to Yourselves: Our biggest advice is to stay true to yourselves. We chose to have a small, intimate ceremony with just close family and friends, and it felt so much more personal and special.
  • Personal Touches: Incorporate your love story into the decor. Use photos, mementos, or even a timeline of your relationship to add a personal touch.
  • Create a Vow Booklet: Create a personalised vow booklet. It’s a cute keepsake and adds an extra touch of intimacy to your ceremony.
  • Set Up a Cozy Lounge Area: With comfy seating and soft lighting, it’s perfect for guests to relax and chat.
  • Have a Plan, but Be Flexible: Things might not go exactly as planned, but sometimes those spontaneous moments are the best.

After the Wedding Day

The big day is over, but the memories last forever. Here’s how to keep the magic alive even after the wedding.

  • Enjoy Every Moment: Be present and soak in every moment. It goes quickly, so make the most of your time.
  • Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: Any of the little things you thought might have been a problem won’t be. It’s just about the two of you celebrating with all of your favourite people.
  • Stay Together: Stay together during the festivities to ensure you’re both experiencing the day fully together.
  • Take Time to Relax: After the big day, take some time to relax and reflect on the wonderful memories you made.

Additional Tips from Couples

Our couples have been there, done that, and have some fantastic tips to share! Here are a few more nuggets of wisdom from their special days.

  • Kimberley + Tim: Remember it’s about the two of you, not the day. If everything falls apart the day before the big day, take a breath, crack a bottle of wine, and call in some favours.
  • Alex + Danni: Take every single moment in. Don’t rush one second. It’s over before you know it and you literally want to just live the day over and over again. Bring lots of tissues because the emotion you will feel is literally uncontrollable.
  • Hazel + David: Remember it’s your day! Enjoy every second of it!
